Outgoing ARM Chairman Ty Hopkins, incoming Chairman Larry Johnson and Scott Spangler of ARM Partners opened the General Session. They provided attendees a look back at 2005, along with a vision of what the future might hold. General Session speakers included:

DISASTER PLANNING AND RECOVERY
DOUG MILLS  |  VP/COO GILLIS, ELLIS & BAKER, INC.

Doug handles a multitude of responsibilities at this New Orleans based ARM member agency, including personnel, procedures, sales management and managing carrier relationships. August 29, 2005 added another dimension to Doug's responsibilities within the agency, as Hurricane Katrina unleashed its force and wreaked havoc on New Orleans and the entire Gulf Coast. Assuming a leading role in the disaster planning and recovery of the agency resulted in the ability of the team to begin taking claims the day after the storm. In his presentation, Doug reviewed plans put in place prior to the storm, and his agency's post-Katrina recovery story, one of success in the face of overwhelming odds.

WHERE VISION TAKES YOU AND HOW TO GET THERE
FRANK D. “SANDY”  TATUM  |  RETIRED PARTNER, COOLEY GOWARD LLP

Sandy continues to practice general commercial law, and his life experiences have covered a broad range of commercial and related activities in and around the greater San Francisco area. In his presentation “Where Vision Takes You and How to Get There”, Sandy reflected upon the many projects and interests he has been involved with where vision and visionaries allowed ideas to turn into realities. As Sandy notes, “Whether or not the world was created by a visionary, visionaries have been the prime movers in creating the places on this planet where life can be effectively lived.”

STATE OF THE PROPERTY MARKET
HARRY TUCKER  |  PRESIDENT OF NATIONAL PROPERTY
RISK PLACEMENT SERVICES, INC.

Harry serves as branch manager of the RPS office in Manhattan, as well as a resource for all RPS property producers across the country. Additionally, Harry produces and markets his own book of property business. In his presentation, Harry gave the group a snapshot of where the property market is in this post-Katrina business environment. He included comments on both catastrophic-driven business and standard property business, as well as information on the property reinsurance marketplace, and offered his insight as to the future of the ever-changing property marketplace.

RPS AT-A-GLANCE
JOEL CAVANESS  |  PRESIDENT, RISK PLACEMENT SERVICES, INC.

Joel began RPS as a start-up operation in 1997 with three employees in Chicago. Today it is a thriving wholesale and excess/surplus lines brokerage operation with 40 offices and satellite offices across the country, and 650 team members. In his presentation, Joel gave attendees an update on what new RPS resources have been added since last year's meeting, as well as a look into the future to see what's on the RPS drawing board. In keeping with the Conference's annual tradition, Joel passed out RPS override checks to various ARM State organizations totaling in excess of $470,000.
